This week, four of our year 4’s were given the opportunity to visit Robson house to take part in a science workshop. The workshop was based on looking at how electricity is created, particularly static electricity. We learnt that static electricity is composed of atoms. Atoms contain particles, these are known as protons and electrons. Protons carry a positive charge and electrons carry a negative charge. We all took turns to touch a plasma ball and could see that when we placed our finger onto the ball, the electrons rushed to our finger, as they were trying to find the quickest route to the ground. We also used a fluorescent light to see how the electrons travelled through the light, through our bodies and to the ground. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with our friends from Robson house!
