This week is Poetry week and in Year 5 we have been reading lots of different poems. Our main focus has been to identify all the different features in a poem and why the poet has chosen to use these techniques. Both classes will be writing their own alliteration poems using the skills they have learnt so far this week. Furthermore on Tuesday each class were given a selection of poems and split into various groups. They were then tasked with identifying key features of those poems and recognising effective words that stood out. Finally they worked together to present their recitation of their groups’ poem to the rest of the class. Before the holidays the children were given a copy of the poem – “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth, which they then had to memorise. This will then be performed alongside fellow pupils in assembly this coming Friday.
