This week, Year 6 have been really enjoying exploring different types of poetry through lots of exciting and interactive activities.
On Monday, we were lucky to be visited by poet Kate Wakeling who led a workshop investigating the use of sound and volume in poems. After creating two fantastic poems as a class, Year 6 pupils wrote their own ‘sound’ poems using creative vocabulary and figurative language.
Throughout the week, Year 6 have also been reading poems from ‘Overheard in a Tower Block’ by Joseph Coelho and have been exploring the thoughts and feelings evoked by Coelho’s wonderful poetry.
To conclude a busy and activity-filled Poetry Week, Year 6 have been working hard on improving their performances of poetry and are looking forward to wowing audiences with their recitals in tomorrow’s Poetry Week assembly.
