Stem week in Year 5!

This week in class we have been learning about what an engineer is and what job they do. We learnt that, they identify problems and design products to solves those problems. In addition we became engineers ourselves to complete a challenge – we had to design and construct our own floating gardens in groups, to help tackle the issue of flooding for Bangladesh farmers. On Wednesday 5Kk and Thursday 5KA  went on a trip to the Francis Crick Institute and spent the day with Scientists conducting our own experiments wearing lab coats and safety goggles. Finally on Friday we were tasked with making bridges using pegs and clips, this was so we could see how many dictionaries our bridges could withhold. In the afternoon we made balloon towers and the winning tower was the one that could stand alone.
